I think they're all great, but I chose Turkey since it's probably the one I'm least informed about (not that I'm terribly well informed about any of them, but still).

Very happy to read about Japan here, since (I admit this is a shallow reason) I just watched FX's "Shogun" and now I'm looking forward to the second series.

I would be thrilled to read about china! That is the country that has the most hands in pot for world order at the moment. A map showing its rise to power would be exciting!

I voted for Japan because my family oral history has Francois Caron (1600-1673) as a distant relative. He negotiated the Dutch staying in Nagasaki when the European powers were “excluded” in 1640.

I have the same issue, where to write about next! Check out millisphere.substack.com

Happy to see Japan and China leading the way on the votes. I'll be happy with whatever you choose, but those two are my primary preferences.

I hope to get to all of them in time, so really this vote is just about the order

Looking forward to it! I'd love to see one at some point on Bali and Indonesia.

I second this. I have personal reasons for wanting Indonesia, but I have found that it is frequently overlooked in geographical explorations.

All of them have an impressive story behind. I hope the the four that don't win get to be next!

China is so huge and so old that it's like doing "Europe" compared to doing just one country. That said, Turkish (Anatolian) history is immense and arguably the oldest in the world. Istanbul alone is a huge, huge topic.
