Wild way to put it. It is easy to forget how much changed in 20th century. Life went from no indoor plumbing or refrigeration to whatever it is we have today…
Seeing one of my favorite places on Earth, Canyon de Chelly, and a bit of Monument Valley, brought back memories of exploring these places on horseback with Navajos. The word 'sonder' seems related to the German word 'sonder', and 'besondere', both meaning 'special'. I like this English neologism, especially (or besonders) its evocation of social empathy as a transcendental feeling. Thanks for posting these marvelous pictures!
If I recall correctly, Koenig took both the German meaning of sonder and the French — which is close to ‘measure depth’. So it sort of combines to suddenly realise the special depth of all the people around you
Clouds over a barren landscape… the difference between me and these is merely a century. 🤣
Some of those children may have grown up to watch the moon landings.

Thank you. Fabulous use of photography and historical context.
