I must confess that before visiting Venice late last year, I was afraid. I was afraid the overtourism crisis that has been plaguing Europe would have stripped the Floating City of her magic — a place I had spent so long imagining but had never seen with my own eyes.
To tell the truth, I found the food poor, the museums expensive, and the narrow bridges overcrowded. The streets thronged with so many tourists, even in frosty November, that one couldn’t help but wonder how many true Venetians are left.
And yet, in spite of all that, Venice remains the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen. Get up as the pale sun rises, take a walk along the empty waterways, watch as the boats begin to putter about… You’ll soon discover this old lady has life in her yet.
Here are some photographs, taken on Kodak Portra 400, from those morning walks.
Venice is like being in a dream.
Thank you for the photos.
Heartily agree! It’s still yours first thing in the morning and late at night.
